Revenge Of The Nerd, Why Smart Guys Are Suddenly Sexy....

I have always had a bit of a thing for the intellectual man. It may have a fair bit to do with the fact that when it came to my High School, enter my early love life...... you could pick from the footballer... the footballer..... or the footballers equally jocked up dickhead friend.

I was always the gal who made eyes at the guy in the band.... not the lead singer, or the lead guitarist...  I was more into the drummer... the quiet broody one who had enough of a brain to read music... and you know... it goes without saying he would have rhythm right?

When it comes to leading men, recently I have noticed a delightful trend in the number of Geeks playing the hunky hero in the leading role.

Sexy Scientist aren't a new concept in Hollywood...

They just refined the pitch a little....

My obsession with all things Nerdy, started in my early teens with movies like Empire Records and Hackers...

Swordfish was a awesome flick, didn't rate that highly, but I suppose it's not for everyone........ In my opinion, (and at the risk of hate mail) I don't really find Hugh Jackman that attractive.Yes I know he is Wolverine but still.... meh......
Jackman is a brilliant talent...... don't get me wrong, but there is something about him that makes me want to give him a lollipop, pat him on the head and send him back to his mothers house.
Put him in jeans and a slogan Tee, hand him a headset and a laptop, dirty him up a bit and call him a hacker ... Swordfish, and OK I get how he can be hot..... See?...... They sexed him up with nerd power.

Hugh A- La Lipton Green Tea..........     ..Sexed up with smarts....
                                     I fucking hate that Ad

Recently though, it seems that it has never been a better time to sport your brain as your best asset

I fell in love with JD from scrubs... now this guy isn't typically good looking.....

But he is smart and funny... and at the end of the episode... I am proudly sporting my Nerd goggles and I am tricked into thinking he is divine......
(Also... I had a cat called Perry once... god rest his fluffy little soul and may his gross cat dribble no longer smell of arse)

I thought The Social Network was fantastic....

Never have nerds been hotter...
I am leaving Mark Zuckerberg well alone....because for one, I am a huge fan of  his work, and two.....quite frankly... I don't want to be hacked.
Justin Timberlake however, Is the ultimate geek success story... That guy would have lasted one week at my high school. I am not an avid listener of JT's music, however, he does pop his little head into a few of my Ipod play lists.. There is nothing like Timberlake to get you in the mood for a gals night... excellent getting ready music.

I adore Big Bang Theory.....

Do you want to know what the sickest thing is though?

If I were penny.... I would tap Sheldon... What does that say about me?

If I were a single gal, I would be hanging down at the comic book store, or checking out the Library....
As sure as Angelina's boobs will eventually sag.. Brad will turn to leather... Smart is sexy forever.

Have you ever had a Nerd crush?

Ahhh the nerd crush. Have had many. Last boyfriend before the hub was a kind of naughty nerd, with whom I watched and loved all those movies you mentioned.

I have high hopes of my children being nerds. Even just one of them. The 2yo's mastery of all things 'i' bodes well maybe.

And ugh the Lipton Tea ads make me want to throw things! And drink more coffee :s

As a former theatre major, an ex comic book shop patron, a former cast member of the stage production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and eternally a book snob and nerd, I love this post. It's always nice to be appreciated.

Hahahaaha! Yes on the nerd crush! I'm married to him right now (comic books, slogan tees, all the movies and tv shows you just mentioned AND thats not all folks). I am subjected to MANY animated films and random trivia about the making of them. I enjoy it because my "inner" nerd has never been subtle, or inner... My nerd also bakes for a living, so he is actually PERFECT.

Oh Sheldon. I LOVE him. I'd totally be able to live with him and his endless lolz
I have to admit, i had a soft spot for smart guys. Dumb is so boring and i find that i dumb myself down, and then feel really out of place because he doesn't get my sense of humour or what i'm talking about. Looks are nice, but like you said, they're only nice for awhile, then you're left with some old fart and nothing to talk about.

it's been a while since I've been here, I'm just now catching up...
I love the Big Bang Theory. It's my current number one favourite, I have seasons 1-3 on dvd and watch at least one random episode a day.
